Chemical Packaging Specialists
Process:
ChemPak LLC utilizes a simple, efficient, straightforward and practical approach to chemical waste packaging and disposal. Although every job is unique, there are essentially two main phases involved with every packaging project.
Phase I: Packaging and Shipment Preparation
On the day of the scheduled packaging event, ChemPak personnel will arrive to the customer site with all necessary supplies and equipment to properly package all of the designated chemicals for disposal. The packaging process involves the segregation of individual chemicals into their own hazard class to comply with D.O.T. regulations as well as to avoid chemical reactions within each separate shipping container. A special packing material is used between the chemical containers which is chemically inert and prevents container breakage. Bulk drum wastes are identified by field inspection and review of Safety Data Sheets if available. If further identification of bulk wastes is needed, a sample may be taken and sent to an outside laboratory for chemical analysis. ChemPak personnel are capable of performing screening tests which may also provide the information needed to properly identify the chemical in question. All containers generated by these activities will have a “Hazardous Waste” storage label affixed to its side which will show the date the container was generated as well as the chemical or chemicals and the hazard associated with those chemicals. Once all shipping containers have been packed, labelled and otherwise prepared for shipment, all corresponding paperwork is completed on site. This includes completion of all waste characterization profiles to facilitate approval into final disposal facilities that can accept hazardous waste. Other related paperwork might include chain of custody forms, uniform bills of lading or non-TSCA forms. Upon signature of these forms all paperwork is submitted for facility approval which takes between 5 and 10 business days.
Phase 2: Transportation and Disposal
Once all waste profiles are approved a fully licensed transporter will arrive on a scheduled date to ship the waste to the final disposal facilities. The driver will then re-label all of the containers with proper shipping labels and provide shipping manifests and land disposal restriction letters for generator signature. At that time, the driver will load the truck, secure all containers on the struck and safely transport the waste to the destination facilities listed on the shipping manifests.
